Iran vs The West: Nuclear Containment?

President Obama has deluded himself to think he can “contain” a nuclear Iran, like the Soviet Union, rather than prevent them from becoming a nuclear weapons-state. But when you have people like Mahmoud Ahmadine”jihad” (hand picked by the Ayatollah) as Iran’s president, there is an element of unpredictability, especially when Mahmoud talks about the “return of the hidden Imam” and the annihilation of Israel.

The fact is that the Soviets, unlike the Iranians, were never religious fanatics. The Soviets were ruthless maintaining themselves — they helped communism abroad, but they were never religious zealots. By contrast, many dangerous scenarios are possible with Iran because of the regime’s religious fanaticism.

If/when Israel does act, some jerks may sound off, but they would be the first ones to seek American protection if/when Iran goes feral. One can only hope that the recent rumblings in Iran will only intensify and topple the regime soon.

“Given Iran’s missile program, which has no conceivable military use except to carry nuclear weapons, and which can now reach Europe and in due course will have a longer range, the fundamental change in US policy has global security consequences.

It has global security consequences in other ways, as well. It profoundly undermines American strategic credibility, which is the bedrock of whatever global order this troubled planet enjoys.

The troubling realisation that the Americans have given up, or are in the process of giving up, the fight to prevent Iran going nuclear is backed by the best informed security sources in Washington, London, Jerusalem and Canberra.”
