NASA GISS: Shades Of George Orwell’s Ministry Of Truth

“Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past.” ~ George Orwell, Nineteen Eighty-Four.

Much like the attempts to erase the Medieval Warm Period (that occurred around A.D. 950–1400), this is yet another case of revisionist history, tailored to fit the AGW advocates. NASA GISS are trying to make 1998 disappear by “adjusting” past U.S. temperature data.

“Time machines are a staple of sci-fi. Someone travels back to the past and changes some momentous historical event, expecting his or her heroic action will improve the present and future, usually with disastrous results! Well, NASA GISS has a different type of time machine that does not actually go back to the past, but simply changes the historical temperature data to make the present Global Warming situation appear worse than it really is, and, by implication, lend credence to their CAGW (Catastrophic Anthropogenic Warming) theories.”

“NASA/NOAA homogenization process has been shown to significantly alter the trends in many stations where the siting and rural nature suggest the data is reliable. In fact, adjustments account for virtually all the trend in the data. Unadjusted data for the best sites/rural shows cyclical multi-decadal variations but no net long term trend as former NASA scientist Dr. Ed Long showed here (PDF). He showed however that after adjustment, the rural data trend was made consistent with the urban data set with an artificial warming introduced.”
